Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is likely at the top of your list on your itinerary for Spain. You certainly can’t blame you for this! The capital of Catalonia is a city that is very peaceful where the nights are as pleasant as the sunny days.
Currently, one of the best attractions is that it is soccer season. FC Barcelona is the place to be if you want to see world-class soccer played live. It is a sport that has become a culture in Barcelona.
Another excellent time to visit the city is between the months of April to July as the weather is perfect and the outdoor festivals take place. While you will encounter a slightly larger number of people throughout the city, the weather of Barcelona will be worth it.
Although the city is very safe, “street violations” or trouble late at night are rare, it is good to always be aware nonetheless.
From the surreal structures created by Antoni Gaudà to the beautiful golden sand beaches, this is how you can make the most of your two-week stay in this historic yet modern city.
Must-Visit Destinations in Barcelona
Ciutadella Park (Parc de la Ciutadella)
This large green area opened in 1892 and occupies more than 280,000m^2. It is not just a garden as it has the city zoo where western gorillas, elephants, and rhinos can be seen. The small lake and the decorative fountain are a must-see, especially if you are a photography buff. It is one of the most tranquil places to photograph the nature of the city.
Park Güell
A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1984, Park Güell is perhaps the most famous public park in the world. This area was designed by Gaudà and was officially opened in the form we see it today in 2006. The park is worth seeing, but I praise more the monumental area of the park, which requires an entrance fee. You can find benches with beautiful mosaics and the famous lucky lizard. It is possible to stroll into many areas of the park. However, I suggest getting a ticket for a small price.
La Sagrada FamÃlia
The main architectural phases of this spectacular Roman Catholic Church will finally be completed by 2026, although it’s probably been going on since 1882. The beautiful architecture of Sagrada Familia, which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites, is what makes it the true symbol of Barcelona.
La Rambla: The Heart of the Action
La Rambla is the one place in Barcelona where you will find the city’s pulse beating. The top tourist attractions in Barcelona… La Rambla is the most famous boulevard in this city, packed with shopping malls, pubs, and restaurants serving delicious Spanish delicacies.
Travel Tip- Because La Rambla is so packed, it is sometimes called the pickpocket capital of this region. So always ensure that your camera, phone, and wallet are safe when you are enjoying the street performers and markets.
The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc
Constructed for the 1929 International Exhibition, this fountain offers a spectacular show of light, music, and water. Best of all? It is completely free. It typically operates from Tuesday to Saturday, making it a great budget-friendly evening activity.
Barceloneta Beach
We all have our go-to places when it comes to travelling – and so does Barcelona. If you are fond of the beach, then you should visit the busy Barceloneta. Enjoy your afternoon with talented sand artists and your local drummers playing throughout the day.
When you get hungry, there are seafood restaurants on the water famous around the world. Barcelona is one of the most attractive cities in the world with its interesting buildings.
